San Martin De Los Andes - via Seven Lakes

In winter, don’t forget to check out the road conditions before heading out on the 105 National Parks.

Duration All day.
Price: from $ 143 (from April 1, 2008).
Total distance: between 360 km. and 450km depending on the return option

This beautiful tour includes the entire range of landscapes you can view in the region. The road to San Martín winds through forests, crosses rivers and streams, and skirts several lakes (Nahuel Huapi, Correntoso, Espejo, Escondido, Villarino, Falkner and Machonico). On these lake shores there are beaches and various scenic lookouts from which to admire magnificent views. Then drive round Lake Lacar to San Martín de los Andes for lunch and a visit to the town.

There are two alternatives for the return trip
(check out road conditions)

Along the unpaved Paso Córdoba road, where the scenery is different from the first part of the trip, is the traditional route. After passing Lake Meliquina, the forest gives way to strange rock formations as they are beautiful. The other alternative is to return along the paved road through Junín de los Andes, La Rinconada, Collon Cura and then along National Route 40, through rural landscapes and steppe, and over beautiful mountain rivers that flow into River Limay.

Both these routes join up at Confluencia Traful, where the magical landscape includes curious rock formations in Valle Encantado (the Enchanted Valley) and the amazing “Anfiteatro” (Amphitheater). Then follow the road alongside the river to its source in Lake Nahuel Huapi, all the way back to Bariloche, to complete the tour.
